Wilbert Watts was born September 28, 1928, in Wylam, Alabama, to the proud parents, Drewery and Viola Watts.
After graduating from Fairfield Industrial High School in Fairfield Alabama, Wilbert relocated to Lansing Michigan, where he immediately became employed with General Motors, and retired with over 30 years of service. Wilbert enlisted in the United State Army in October of 1950, where he obtained the rank of Corporal. He spent over nine months in Germany and received a certificate of Honorable Discharge from the Army in September of 1956.
In November of 1959, he married the love of his life, Gency Ann Lindsey. That union was blessed with two beautiful children: a daughter, Cathy Gutierrez (Watts) and a son, Duane Watts. Wilbert was such a kind, compassionate and loving person that his memory will be cherished and he will be sincerely missed.
Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Drewry and Viola Watts; wife, Gency A. Watts; a son, Sylvestor Washington; stepson, John Lindsey, Jr.; daughter, Cathy Gutierrez (Watts); stepdaughter: Alene Lindsey; sister, Vera J. Gill (Watts); granddaughter, Catherine Gutierrez (a.k.a. Lulu); grandson, Darnell Nixon. Cherishing his memory are his devoted son, Duane Watts; stepdaughter, Joan (Wesley) Brooks; brother, Herman (Marion) Watts; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 23, 2014, at 12:00 p.m. at Reachout Christian Center Church, located at 5628 Wise Rd., Lansing, MI 48911, with Pastor David Foreman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
