William John Madtes Lansing Born October 31, 1929 to William and Odella Madtes in Queens, New York. Died April 23, 2013. Bill served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1954. A graduate of Michigan State University and loyal Spartan, Bill retired from the State of Michigan, Department of Corrections. He was an avid sailor, plying the waters of Lake Lansing and Lake Michigan. In addition, he had been a cyclist and member of the Tri-County Bicycle Association, completing several Dalmac rides. Bill enjoyed photography during the winter months in Cape Canaveral, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law Herbert Westphal, his brothers-in-law Joseph Wibrew and Brian Bleasdale, and his nephews Dennis Wibrew and Brian George Bleasdale. Surviving are his wife Nancy, mother-in-law Mary Bower, sisters Beatrice Wibrew and Mary (Anthony) DiCarlo, sisters-in-law Jo Westphal and Carole Bleasdale, and several nieces and nephews. A commemorative service will take place at a future date in Port Huron, Michigan. Memorial contributions in Bill's honor may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society, 7095 W.
