ZANESVILLE: Charles V. Heisa, 92, of Zanesville and formerly of Circleville, passed Tuesday December 3, 2013 at Cedar Hill Care Center in Zanesville.
Born in Cleveland, OH to the late Chester C. and Carrie Louise (Hartman) Heisa.
Graduated from Mantua H.S. in 1939, Charles went into the Army during W.W.II in 80th Infantry Div. under General Patton and was involved in the Normandy Invasion. Then to Hiram College with a BA in 1949, Kent State B.S. in 1950, and a M.Ed. in 1954 Phi Delta Pi at Kent State. Charles spent nearly 50 years as an Educator, Teaching, as Principal, and Coaching. The schools he had taught included; Deerfield School, Newton Falls, Lake Co. Schools, Boy's Industrial School Lancaster, Bloom Carroll, and Retired from Jefferson School Dist. Gahanna in 1980. He was ordained in the Disciples of Christ Church in Indianapolis and a graduate of American Bible College in FL. with Bachelors in Theology. He then moved to Ocala, FL and taught at Ocala Christian Academy and had a nursing home ministry, while in Ocala. Around 2000 with his former wife Evelyn, moved back to Ohio in Pickaway County closer to family. He was a member Newton Fall's F.&A.M, VFW Post 7941 So. Bloomfield. Attended the Darbyville Community Church.
Preceded by wife Evelyn Clifton Azbell, June 9, 2009, sister Madeline Louie Sunderman; step daughter Bonnie Boyer.
Survived by his wife Nancy Jones Heisa of Zanesville whom he married November 15, 2010; sons, Mark (Karen) Heisa of Rootstown and Grant Heisa of Kent; step son Bob (Carolyn) Azbell of CA.; adopted children Sean and Ashley Heisa; special friends Flo Williams, Pam McDonald and Gail Forst; step children, Rodney Jones, Michelle Jones, Kecia Williams, Polly (James) Maynard, Mark (Rachelle) Jones, Chris (Maranda) Jones, 11 step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren; step granddaughter Thresa Waits; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service 1:00 p.m. Saturday December 7, 2013 at the Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St. Ashville with Rev. Denver Peters officiating. Calling hours from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow in Muhlenberg Township Cemetery, Darbyville. Graveside Military Service by AMVETS Post 2256.
