LANCASTER: Edward Andrew Marque Sr. was born August 22, 1929 to Edward Ralph Marque and Suzanne Mary (Midlar) Marque in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from St. Charles Prep School, earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Ohio State University and went on to graduate from Ohio State Dental School with his D.D.S. in June of 1956. He was immediately inducted into the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant. and subsequently was sent to Tokyo, Japan. After the first year, he was promoted to Captain and remained on active duty in Japan for a total of three and 1/2 years.
He returned to the United States in April of 1960 and set up his dental practice in Lancaster where he practiced for 36 years. He served as Vice President of the Hocking Valley Dental Society in 1968-69 and President in 1969-70. In the 1970's, he served as chairman of the Arbitration Board for the local dental society. He retired from practice in December of 1996.
Edward was a passionate tennis player and golfer and in a lifetime of rounds of golf, had three holes-in-one. He was also an avid Ohio State Buckeye football and basketball fan and rarely missed attending their football games.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years: Paula Kathryn (Smith) Marque; son, Edward Andrew Marque, Jr., grandsons, John, Alex and Daniel Marque; son, John Michael and daughter-in-law, Susan Marie (Proctor) Marque and grandson, Adam Marque; daughter, Suzanne Eileen, son-in-law, Michael Swartz and grandchildren, Stuart and Meredith Swartz; son, David Hartley and daughter-in-law, Diane Mary (Spinelli) Marque; and daughter, Kathryn Ann and son-in-law, Bradley Michael Bridgham and granddaughter, Marlys Bridgham. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Edward passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 6, under Hospice care. He was just 16 days short of his 85th birthday.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 11, at 10:30 AM at St. Bernadette Church with Fr. Thomas Kessler at Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday, August 10, from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM at SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME where a vigil service will be conducted at 7:30 PM.
