LANCASTER: Kathleen Lucille (Peggy) Mack Reed, 90, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2013 with her loving family at her side. Kathleen was born July 27, 1923. Kathleen's education started in a one room school. At the schools closing she attended school in Bremen and graduated with honors from Rushcreek Memorial High School, Class of 1942. She attended Purdue University, worked for the Alcoa Aluminum Co. as a metallurgist until the plant closed after the war. Her career continued at the Lancaster Utilities Department, Lancaster Lens, office manager, and real estate sales.
Kathleen was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and friend. She had a giving heart when it came to helping others.
Kathleen married the love of her life, Harry on July 8, 1942. Four children came from that union. Daughters, Lora L. Starner, Lancaster, Connie (Larry) Reed- Cayton, Lancaster, Debora (Loyd) Thrapp, Carroll and son, Harry L. (Kim) Reed II, Lancaster. Along with her children she is survived by five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Grandchildren, Mark (Margaret) Hughes, Candace (Michael) Policaro, Natalie (Tony) Sharp, Heather Hollett, and Melissa Reed. Great grandchildren, Cullen Hughes, Alicia, Anthony, and Giovanni Policaro, Alec, Addison, and Ava Sharp, and Carson Hollett. Sister-in-law, Mary Jane Bougher, many loving nieces and nephews, and the caring staff at the Springs of Carroll.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Lee Reed of 69 years on March 18, 2012. Parents Raymond and Emma Mack, sisters, Francis Bush, Patricia Lott, Jane Elick Vanhorn, Annabelle Hanna Chapman, brothers, Edgar Mack, Bill Mack, Paul (Brandy) Mack, and Ralph Mack. Granddaughter, Kathy Dee Hughes.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 3rd 2014 at 11:00 AM at Emanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Raddatz officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, January 2nd from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM at the SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME and 1 hour prior to service at church on Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church in memory of Kathleen.
