NEWARK: A funeral service for Merle E. Thrasher will be held at 11am, Monday, March 10, 2014, at the Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home in Newark. The Licking County Veterans Alliance and the US Marine Corps will present military funeral honors at the funeral home.

Friends and family may call from 1-4pm, on Sunday, at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st Street.

Mr. Thrasher, age 89, of Alexandria, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Selma Markowitz Hospice Center. He was born October 12, 1924, in Marietta, a son of the late Elmer and Eva Pearl (Lacey) Thrasher. A veteran of WWII, in the Pacific Theatre, he proudly served in the US Marine Corps and the US Marine Corps Reserves until 1962. Mr. Thrasher graduated in 1950 from Marietta College, with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. He was a business owner, stock broker and farmer. His favorite pastimes included reading, all types of music and gardening.

Surviving are his children, Vicki (John) White of Johnstown, Mark (Salena) Thrasher of Granville, Lora (Rene) Lallier of Massachusetts, Andrew (Terri) Thrasher of Alexandria, Penny (Brad) Hutchinson of Lancaster, James (Stacie) Thrasher of Ashville, Michael (Miriam) Thrasher of Kent; 17 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, his brothers, Larry (Marian) Thrasher of Marietta, Kelsey (Linda) Thrasher of Tulsa, OK and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Sara Virginia (Linkfield) Thrasher in 2000 and two brothers Holly and Ned Thrasher.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
