Nancy Ellen Goodman

SARASOTA, FL: Nancy Ellen Goodman of Sarasota, FL passed away July 16, 2014, after battling breast cancer for 13 years.

Nancy was born to the late Edward and Ruth Cordes, August 12, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Kirkwood High School in 1971 and received a BS in Elementary Education from Drake University in 1975. She married Jim Goodman in 1980 and lived in Lancaster, OH before relocating many times along the way. From Lake Forest, IL back to Lancaster, OH, to Valrico, FL, before finally settling in Sarasota, FL in 2010.

Nancy was an Elementary School teacher for over 32 years. She influenced the lives of many students and was passionate about teaching children with specific learning disabilities. She was constantly trying to better herself as an educator through professional development classes and was always willing and eager to learn. She loved her job and the people she worked with. Nancy was a sister of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and loved reuniting with her closest sisters yearly. She loved to be outdoors enjoying nature, and golf with her family and friends was a weekly adventure. Nancy loved the beach and spending time with her family. Trips in general and to Ohio were top priority; she enjoyed living in Ohio part time and watching The Ohio State Buckeyes every Saturday.

Nancy is survived by her loving family: her husband, Jim Goodman; Jason Goodman (son); Jamie Hernandez (daughter); Michael Hernandez (son in law); Anthony Hernandez (step grandson); her brother, David Cordes and his wife, Rosie Cordes and their children, Laura, John and Will; as well as extended family and friends.

The viewing will be held at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home in Riverview, FL on Sunday, July 20, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. with the service on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
