Carole Ann Argan
Carole Argan passed away at her home in Regina on September 29, 2013 at the age of 55, following a courageous 27-year battle with mental illness. Carole was born in Regina and attended St. Augustine and Miller High School. She earned a bachelor of science with high honours through Campion College of the University of Regina prior to moving to Montreal where she earned a PhD in biochemistry from McGill University in 1986. It was after moving to Los Angeles to assume a postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA that her struggles with mental illness began. She returned to Regina and worked at a variety of jobs. Her favourite was her work in carpentry through the Women's Work Training Program and the Regina Women's Construction Co-op. She earned her level two carpentry certification at SIAST Palliser in Moose Jaw in 1999. Carole was also proficient in stained glass work which she taught herself by reading a book in 1980 while in Montreal. Over the years, she designed and created numerous window hangings, lamps and other stained glass, mainly as gifts for her family and friends. In May 2000, she married William Wilson and they enjoyed nearly five years of happy marriage prior to Wilson's death from cancer in February 2005. The death later that year of her mother, Helen Argan, was also a serious blow to Carole. Carole loved walking, cycling, reading (especially non-fiction), cooking and eating various foods from around the world. She was an avid pool player and bridge player. She is predeceased by her husband William Wilson and her parents Bill and Helen Argan. Carole is survived by her brother Glen (Nora) of Edmonton and their children; and Darrel (Laurie) of Stonewall, Man., and their children as well as many devoted friends. A Remembrance of Life will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Serbian Club, 1876 Wallace St., Regina, at 1:00 p.m. Donations in Carole's name may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, 1810 Albert St., Regina S4P 2S8.
