Dr. Manley F. Robinson, formerly of Canora, SK, passed away at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary, AB on December 6, 2013 at the age of 91 years. Born in Frankfield, Jamaica on July 31, 1922, he enrolled in the Jamaican College of Agriculture after finishing high school. He became a pioneer in the development of the artificial insemination program in the country. To further his education in the field of veterinary medicine, he enrolled in the Michigan State University and received his doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1956. During his final years at college, Manley met Barbara Lew Smith, an education major from Grosse Point Park, Michigan and they were married on June 16, 1956. They came to Canada shortly after Dr. Robinson graduated, and he began his professional career with the health of animals branch in meat hygiene at the Burns and Co. Packing Plant in Prince Albert. In 1957, he passed the provincial exams and was licenced to practice veterinary medicine in Saskatchewan. He started at a practice in Milestone and in 1958, established the Parkland Veterinary Clinic in Canora. Over the years, Dr. Robinson also contributed to his association, serving on its council, on continuing education and legislation committees and on the professional conduct and practice economics committees. He was nominated and prestigiously honored with a life membership in the Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Robinson was known for leading an exemplary career and for his professional and high regard for his colleagues. When not at his clinic or at home, he enjoyed hunting, tennis, curling and golf. He was an avid reader with a love for veterinary practice, and always a gentleman, who led by example. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
