Phenix City, Alabama- Clarence Edwin Johnston, 87 of Phenix City, AL, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the Columbus Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. ET Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Hillside United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jim Meadows officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Phenix City, AL. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mr. Johnston was born May 9, 1926 in Phenix City, Alabama. He is the son of the late Isaac and Lila Shores Johnston. He served his country in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Phenix City, AL. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Johnston and brother, Isaac A. Johnston.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Phoebe Jones Johnston of Phenix City, AL, sons, David Johnston and wife Dawn of Phenix City, AL, Johnny Johnston and wife, Debi of Star Mountain, GA, daughter, Patricia Graf of Phenix City, AL, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzhiemer's Association in Clarence Johnston's memory.
