Columbus, GA- Mr. Joe Lewis Douglas, Jr SFC Retired USA, of Columbus, died Sunday, July 14, 2013 at his home. He was 53 years old and resided at 2414 Bond Avenue.
A native of Great Falls, SC and the son of the late Joe Lewis, Sr and Mary G. Douglas, Joe was born on March 22, 1960. A Gulf War veteran, he retired from the U.S. Army in 1995, receiving several medals and awards. He also retired as a Postal Clerk from the Waverly Hall Post Office. He was a member of and attended the Infantry Center Chapel on Main Post, Ft. Benning, GA.
Surviving are his children, Jaquanese L. Douglas, Roqoawna S. Mobley(Allen), Mario Brown(Shanna), David and Davon Morris; five grandchildren, Serenity, Joshua, Bianca, Brennan Brown and Amiyah Morris; his siblings, Howard Douglas(Azalee), Deborah Douglas, Gwendolyn Douglas and Vernita Gladden(Jonathan); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
SFC Douglas will be laid to rest on Friday at the National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL after a 12:30 P.M. Homegoing Celebration at the Infantry Center Chapel on Main Post, Ft. Benning, GA. Chaplain Maj. Chester Darren will officiate. There will be no public visitation at the funeral home. The family will receive visitors at 2118 North Andrews Circle and the cortege will depart from 2414 Bond Avenue Friday at 12:00 P.M. Arrangements entrusted to Progressive Funeral Home, Inc.
