Columbus, Georgia- Rev. John Henry Averett, 60, of 306 Wells St., Cusseta, Georgia died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at his home. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, December 8, 2013, at St. Paul CME Church, Cusseta, GA. Rev Earnell Wilburn, Pastor officiating, and Bishop Kenneth Wayne Carter, Presiding Prelate Sixth Episcopal District, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery according to Sconiers Funeral Home, 836 5th Ave., Columbus, GA. Visitation will be 12:00-4:00 PM, Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the funeral home; followed by a family hour from 5:00-6:00 PM. The remains will lie in state at St Paul CME Church, Sunday December 8, 2013 from 1:00-3:00 PM. Rev. Averett was born November 22, 1953 in Cusseta, Georgia. He was the son of the late Rev. Jesse Averett, Sr. and Mrs. Martha Shipp Averett. He was the former pastor of St. Luke CME Church of Lilly, Georgia. He was a member of St. Paul CME Church, Cusseta, GA, and a U. S. Army veteran. Survivors include his loving mother, Mrs. Martha Shipp Averett of Cusseta, GA; one daughter, Telicia Fisher (Marvin) and two grandchildren, Jakauri Fisher and Ariya Fisher of Jacksonville, FL; six sisters- Geraldine Parris of Cusseta, GA; Lucy Baldwin of Columbus, GA; Amanda Thornton (Col (Ret) Charles R. Thornton) of Prince George, VA; Essie Francis (Chief Petty Officer (Ret) Carl Francis), Ida Boykins, and Martha Patterson all of Columbus, GA; three brothers- Presiding Elder Jesse Averett, Jr. (Corene) of Columbus, GA; James Averett (Helen) of Sicklerville, NJ; and 1SG (Ret.) Jeffrey Averett (Chantay) of Madison, AL. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
