Columbus, GA- Mr. John Henry King of Columbus, GA passed away on Saturday June 7, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital. He was 81 years of age.
The son of Mrs. Ophelia Gant King, and the late Earnest King, Mr. King was born August 1, 1932 in Selma, AL. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree from Albany State University, and taught for over thirty-six years in the Harris and Muscogee County School Districts. His final tenure was at Arnold Jr. High School where he taught Science. He was a U. S. Army Veteran who was a recepient of the Purple Heart, and a member of the American Legion Post 267. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Geraldine Calloway and Earnest King, Jr.
Survivors, other than his mother, include: his wife of sixty years, Mrs. Verda Williams King; three sons, Phillip King, Cecil King (Shirlene), Alfred King (DeBora); a daughter, Sharon Harris; nine grandchildren, Brittany, Peyton, Max, Patrick, Jonathan, Arianna, Malcolm, Nia and Camille; five siblings, Helen J. Hogan, Earline Tumble, Joyce Hodge, Ola Harvey and Carolyn Sanders; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Mr. King will be Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Progressive Chapel with Rev. Marion Greene officiating. The interment will be held Monday, June 16, 2014 at Ft. Mitchell Cemetery. The visitation will begin Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. until funeral time.
