Silver Spring, MD- Matthew Douglas Lowe of Silver Spring, MD died unexpectedly on Friday, January 24, 2014 at Holy Cross Hospital at the age of 51.  He was born on April 4, 1962 in Hinsdale, IL.  He attended Hardaway High School in Columbus, GA and graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BA in Economics in 1985.  In 2000 he married Stephenie Alverson and in 2005 they had twin sons, Thomas Burton and Peter Evans. He is survived by his parents Rita R. and Burton N. Lowe;  brothers Stephen R. (Jacqueline) Lowe, Jeffrey B. (Deborah) Lowe, A. Duncan (Darla) Lowe, and a sister Martha K. (Gary) Steier;  as well as 11 nieces and nephews.
Matt Lowe had extensive political and legislative experience on Capitol Hill.  His first political job was for the Bob Dole for President campaign.  He later served in legislative director and legislative assistant positions for key members of Congress.  Matt served twice as Deputy Research Director at the National Republican Senatorial Committee.  In 2006 he served as Research Director at the National Republican Congressional Committee.  In recent years he was a research consultant specializing in political and public affairs. He compiled and analyzed legislative, political, and personal records of candidates.  Matt also researched political and historical records of organizations.  He integrated his findings into his clients' message strategies, press releases, and polling.
Matt was an active parent in the St. Bernadette's School community in Silver Spring, MD and a leader at Liberty Grove Methodist Church in Burtonsville, MD. As a young man, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Matt was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves and Washington Redskins.  His loving family and many friends will deeply miss his thoughtfulness, hugs, and well-timed puns.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Boulevard, West, Silver Spring, MD, on Thursday, January 30, 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm. Complimentary valet parking is available. A Celebration of Life followed by a luncheon will be held at Liberty Grove United Methodist Church, 15225 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville, MD, on Friday, January 31, at 11 am.
