Shiloh, GA- Rhonda Jo Durham Lipp, age 63, from Shiloh, GA, passed away October 9, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, Joe S. Durham. Rhonda leaves behind her husband of 43 years, Ronnie Lipp, of Shiloh, a daughter, Jennie Eastman (Todd), and two grandchildren, Austin Eastman (Kirsten) and Allie Eastman, all of Shiloh, Mother, Barbara Durham of Dawsonville, GA, a sister Kay Durham Barry (Bob) of Waverly Hall, and two brothers Bud Durham of Shiloh and Mark Durham (Faith) of Dawsonville, Mother-in-law Joyce Lipp of Shiloh, two sisters-in-law Rhonda Gail Tracy of Shiloh, and Beverly Bolin of Ellerslie, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Rhonda was born in LaGrange, GA on May 31, 1950 to Joe S. Durham and Barbara Ann Brown Durham of Shiloh. Rhonda graduated from Harris County High School in 1968 then attended Columbus Beauty School. Rhonda was a well- known licensed hairdresser and had her own shop, Jennie's Beauty Shop, for many years. She was most well- known for her job as a School Bus Driver for the Harris County School System, where she touched the lives of countless children over her 21 years of driving. Her students came to love, respect and admire her for her devotion to duty and her devotion to ensuring that they were transported safely. She cared for each and every one like they were her own.
After retiring from the Harris County School System, Rhonda and her husband relocated to the Tampa, Florida area doing commercial property maintenance work. In 2006, they returned to Shiloh, the place they love, and founded Tri State Maintenance Services where she was the Office Manager before being diagnosed with a recurrence of breast cancer in 2010.
Rhonda was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed camping with family and friends, loved animals of any kind, riding the Blue Ridge Parkway, and shopping. Her home was always a place where family and friends loved to gather for good food and socializing. Her passion was spending time with her family and friends sharing her knowledge and wisdom. The pride of her life was her daughter Jennie and her grandchildren, Austin and Allie, whom she adored.
Cox Funeral Home of Manchester, GA is in charge of the funeral arrangements. The visitation will be Friday 6-8 p.m at the funeral home. The service will be Saturday, October 12th at 2 p.m. at Community Chapel in Pine Mountain Valley with Pastor Rick Lipp officiating. Interment will be in the Durham Family Cemetery, Trammell Mill Road, Shiloh, GA.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to John B. Amos Cancer Center or Columbus Hospice. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of the John B. Amos Cancer Center for the excellent care given to Rhonda over the last several years. Also, to Dr. Kenneth Smith, Dr. Will Cunningham, and Tommy Beckham for their care and compassion for Rhonda. The family wishes to acknowledge the kind and caring staff of Columbus Hospice who treated Rhonda with a great deal of dignity and respect during her end of life care. Special thanks also to nephew Roy Durham, RN, who went above and beyond to care for his Aunt Rhonda. The family also wants to extend a warm thank you to all of the friends and family members who were always there to comfort Rhonda in her time of need.
