Columbus, GA- T/SGT (Ret) William Curtiss Chandler, Jr. passed away on Monday at his home at the age of 68. He resided at 412 Timberlane Drive in Columbus.
The son of the late William, Sr. and Annie B. McCray Chandler, Mr. Chandler was a native of Columbus born on June 9, 1945. He was a 1963 graduate of Carver High School and a Veteran of the U. S. Air Force, retiring after 20 years of services. He was also retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 15 years. Mr. Chandler was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church where he served in the Choir. He was a Prince Hall Mason and a member of the Shirley B. Winston Pinochle Club. He was a Licensed Home Inspector. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Chandler.
Survivors include: his children, Diometra Chandler Frierson, William Carlos Chandler and Shirmeka Chandler; three siblings, Herman Chandler (Chris), Christine Chandler Evans (Robert) and Beverly Chandler Herring; three grandchildren, Theresa Clay, Chandler Frierson and Joshua Chandler; a great grandchild, Christian Clay; eight aunts, Gussie Gardner, Lillie Tutt, Mae F. Person (Ezekiel), Mary A. Woods, Clotee McCray, Anne Perry (Alvis), Virginia McCray, Edith McCray; two uncles, Joe McCray (Fannie) and Robert F. Kelley Sr.; a special friend, Lula Harris, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Chandler will be Monday, December 23, 2013 at 11:00 am at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church with interment following in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Pastor J. C. Harris will officiate. Visitation is Sunday, 1 til 3:00 pm at the funeral home. The cortege will depart from the residence at 10:30 the morning of the service. Arrangements entrusted to the staff of Progressive Funeral Home, Inc. "A Touch of Dignity for Those Who Care."
