Dora Jean Donath

LINCOLN, IL - Dora Jean Donath, 84, passed away at 4:39 p.m. on December 17, 2013, at her home in Lincoln.

She was born on November 27, 1929, in Curran, Ill., the daughter of Lester N. and Bessie M. (Stephens) Palmer. She married Paul L. Donath on October 18, 1948, in Lincoln. He preceded her in death on November 10, 2012.

Dora was a hard working, devoted mom who always put the needs of her family before her own. She had a special love for each of her children and grandchildren and was always there to lend a helping hand wherever needed. She was our "angel" here on earth. We were all blessed to have her with us for so many years, and we will miss her deeply.

She retired from District 27 after working as a cook for ten years. She was a den mother, a 4-H leader, and a past president of the VFW Ladies Auxillary. She liked to knit, crochet, and paint.

Mrs. Donath is survived by nine children, Donna Goetsch of Lincoln, Cathy (Bruce) Oswald of Palatine, Ill., Terri (Rick) Culleton of Buffalo Grove, Ill., Mary (Brian) O'Hara of Lincoln, Mona (Mark) Lewis of Litchfield, Ill., Paul Timothy (Sue) Donath of Lincoln, Tom (Lisa) Donath of Mt. Pulaski, Matt Donath of Waterloo, Iowa, and Mark Donath of Lincoln. In addition she is survived by 23 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by a sister, Patricia Duncan of Lincoln and a brother, George (Ethel) Palmer of Middleburg, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, three brothers, a granddaughter, and a great-great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Donath was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln.

Visitation for Mrs. Donath will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2013, from 5-7 p.m. at Holland Barry and Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln. Funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Monday, December 23, 2013, at 10 a.m., with Father Liable officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Lincoln.
