LINCOLN, IL - Wilma J. Harris-Wasson, 86, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at The Christian Village.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, Ill., with Brandon Boyd officiating.
Wilma was born Jan. 9, 1928 in Decatur, Ill., the daughter of Wilbur R. and Emily J. (Thain) Helmick. She graduated from Clinton Community High School and Millikin University in Decatur, Ill. She studied at Northwestern University School of Medical Technology and was registered as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. She earned her Master of Science degree from Illinois State University.
She was employed by Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital from 1966 until 1988, retiring as Laboratory Supervisor. She returned in 1989 to work part-time as a microbiologist, retiring again in 1998.
She married Edmund Ray Harris in 1952 in Chicago, Ill. She later married David Wasson in Lincoln, Ill.
Surviving are her son, E. Scott Harris and his wife, Valerie, of Pekin, Ill., and one sister, Marguerite Thompson and her husband, Halsey, of Monticello, Ill.
She was a long-time member of Lincoln Christian Church and the Friendship Corner Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lincoln Christian Church.
