Orlando, Judge Adolph

Adolph C. Orlando, a retired New York State Court of Claims Judge and former interim Justice of the New York State Supreme Court, died at his Pelham Manor home on Saturday, November 16, 2013. Judge Orlando was 93. Judge Orlando was born in the Bronx to Joseph and Jenny (nee Militana) Orlando. He attended New York City public schools graduating from DeWitt Clinton High School in 1938. He went on to undergraduate and legal studies at St. John's University. During that time his studies were interrupted by four years of service in the United States Army during World War II. Judge Orlando was a survivor of the Christmas Eve Torpedoing of the Leopoldville and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. After a career in private practice Judge Orlando was appointed an interim Justice of the New York Supreme Court by Governor Nelson Rockefeller in 1969. He was later appointed by Governor Rockefeller to the New York State Court of Claims from which he retired. After retirement, Judge Orlando continued to serve as a Judicial Hearing Officer.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Rose (nee Marino) and his four children, Joseph, Francis (Noreen), Genevieve Vaccariello (Richard), and Adolph (Debra); ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
