Cozewith, Arthur

Arthur David Cozewith, 88, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at his home in Pearl River, New York.

Arthur was the son of the late Herman and Francis Cozcewith, brother of Charles Cozewith and the late Bernard Cozewith. A truly devoted husband of an amazing 66 years to Beatrice Cozewith, he was also a loving father to Elaine and Alan Spitzer, Bruce and Carol Cozewith, and the late Susan Cozewith. Arthur was also a beloved grandfather, adored by his nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Arthur grew up in Bayonne, New Jersey, and enlisted in the US Army in 1942. He served in World War II and was stationed in Germany as an infantry rifleman during the campaign for Western and Central Europe. He was captured by the German Army and was a Prisoner of War for 6 months during the war. At the age of 19, however, he managed to escape Germany to return home, later marrying his sweetheart, Beatrice Edelman, at the age of 22.

Arthur was awarded numerous honors for his three years of service, which included the Bronze Star Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the POW Medal, and the Victory Medal. Arthur graduated with a BS in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1947 and later worked as Vice President for Engineering, Research and Development, in Program Management and Marketing for Arde, Inc. In this position, he worked on a series of projects for NASA during his career. He was acknowledged as a world leader in the development of metal working processes. The Jewish and Veterans' community were of great importance to Arthur throughout his life. He served as the President of the Nanuet Hebrew Center, and was bestowed the honor of being the Guest Speaker at the Pearl River 2012 Memorial Day Parade. An inspirational man who cherished his friends and family and loved life, Arthur was incredibly active throughout his lifetime. He was an avid golfer and martial artist, achieving a black belt in Karate at the age of 70.

Funeral services will be held at Nanuet Hebrew Center in New City, NY Sunday, 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Beth-El Cemetery in Paramus, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to the or the Nanuet Hebrew Center.
