Arthur E. Peterson, 95, a longtime resident of Katonah, died March 23 in Peabody, MA. He graduated from White Plains High School in 1935 and was one of the first men to graduate from Westchester School of Nursing in 1938. He was an enthusiastic alumnus of NYU, where he earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees. A lifelong educator specializing in math and science, Mr. Peterson returned to Westchester School for Nursing as an instructor, and also taught for BOCES in Yorktown. He proudly served as a Pharmacist's Mate in the Navy during World War II. Arthur volunteered for the Katonah Boy Scouts and the American Red Cross, was a member and past president of the Katonah Lions Club, and active in Emanuel Lutheran Church and Vasa Order of America.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Bennett Peterson; their son, Attorney James A. Peterson of Swampscott, MA; grandchildren, Hannah Peterson and Daniel Peterson; nieces, Linda Doherty of White Plains, Anna Ruth Kaneshiro of Honolulu, HI, and Nancy McDonald of Cheyenne, WY; nephews, John N. Peterson Jr and Gary Peterson of New Bern, NC; and many more family members, friends and former students, all of whom he cared about deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl A. and Anna (Anderson) Peterson; his brothers, Carl A. Peterson Jr., and John Norman Peterson; and his aunt, Mabel Anderson Wallin of White Plains.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 18 at 12:00 noon at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasantville. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St, Danvers, MA 01923, or the Brooksby Village Scholarship Fund, 200 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody, MA 01960.
