Macfarlane, Bruce Ker

A much loved husband, father, brother and friend, Bruce Ker Macfarlane passed away peacefully on Sunday after bravely confronting cancer a second time. Bruce was born in Middlebury, VT, raised in Utica, NY and resided in Larchmont for the past 33 years. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from Syracuse University and a Masters of Astronomy from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Bruce moved to NYC to learn computing before starting his doctoral studies in Boston. He never left New York, however, making his livelihood developing computer software and eventually becoming Executive Vice President of Amarex Technology from which he retired in 1999.

Bruce was active in his community of Larchmont as a soccer coach, democratic district leader and member of the Village of Larchmont Committee on the Environment working on tracking/reducing Larchmont's carbon footprint. Bruce also played clarinet in the Sound Shore Orchestra and was a patient-to-patient volunteer at MSKCC for head and neck cancer patients. He has been an active volunteer for The Sharon Land Trust.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Joan Gaestel Macfarlane, and his two children and daughter-in-law, Andrew Campion Macfarlane and his wife, Rebecca Price, and Megan Newberry Macfarlane, and by his brother, Bryan Macfarlane and wife Ruth Macfarlane, his nieces and nephews and the rest of his family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Sidley Macfarlane and Patricia Macfarlane.

Memorial Service to be held on Saturday, November 16th at noon at the Larchmont Village Center during which there will be time for people to honor Bruce with their own words. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Village of Larchmont Committee on the Environment or The Sharon Land Trust (Sharon, CT). The family wishes to thank Palliative and Hospice Care of Westchester for all of their support.
