Edmund L. Klan Jr., (formerly of Carmel, NY) 84, of Orchard Street, died suddenly at home on Thursday, September 26, 2013. He was born on June 15, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY to Alice (Sawyer) and Edmund Klan, Sr.
After graduating from Brooklyn Prep he joined the U.S. Marines and served in the Korean War.
Returning after his service, he joined the New York City Police Department and was assigned as a foot patrol officer in various precincts throughout the city. He went on to earn his detective shield and become a Detective Sergeant in the Homicide Division out of Manhattan South, from which he retired after over thirty four years.
After retirement, Edmund traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe.
He was predeceased by his brothers, William F. X. Klan, Robert T. Klan and John P. Klan. He was both a loving father and grandfather and is survived by his three children and their families, Theresa Klan and her husband Alan Cook of Lee, MA, Mary A. Snyder and her husband Douglas of Hamden, CT, and his son Edmund L. Klan III and his wife Eileen of Kingston, NY. He also leaves eight grandchildren Caitlin, Tyler, Hadley, Meghan, Erin and Brady Cook and Griffin and Emme Klan. His children and grandchildren loved him dearly and will miss him very much.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Lee conducted by Rev. Jack Sheaffer. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ed's memory to St. Mary's School in Lee, MA.
