Quilty, Edward J.

Edward J. Quilty of Greenville, SC, died on May 13, 2013. Born on January 13, 1924 in Yonkers, NY, he was the son of the late Daniel and Margaret Quilty. Ed served during World War II aboard the USS Tuscaloosa as a deck gunner operating in the North Atlantic campaign, participating in many conflicts including D-Day. Ed was awarded four bronze battle stars, Combat Action Ribbon, Russia Great Patriotic Medal, and Normandy Jubilee Medal of Liberty, was a recipient of the Purple Heart and named "Chevalier" of the French Legion of Honor. He was a graduate of New York University. Later in his career, he was awarded an MBA from the Executive Program at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Ed was employed for 38 years with Bell Telephone Companies and had many interesting assignments including representing AT&T at the Olympics. Upon his retirement from AT&T, he took a position with Coker College in Hartsville, S.C. Ed was appointed Chair of the Business and Economics Department. He was awarded Master Professor and at retirement was given the honor of Professor Emirates. During his life, Ed volunteered his talents to many groups and organizations. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rose Marie, his high school sweetheart and friend of 73 years. Ed's greatest pride was his wife and children. Although not a boastful person, he was full of pride that all his children were college graduates.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children, Colleen Rogers and husband Robert of Stony Point NY, Edward Quilty and wife Patricia of Newtown PA, Kevin Quilty and wife Lynn of Carlsbad CA, Kathleen Sterns and husband Richard of Chesterfield MO, Maureen Shallcross and husband William, of Greenville SC, Eileen Quilty of Winston-Salem NC, Rosemarie Arnau of Simpsonville SC, Meg Liebe and husband John of Palmyra NJ; twenty grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will celebrate Edward's life at noon mass at the Monastery Church of the Sacred Heart, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, New York 10703 on Monday, June 24th, 2013. Mr. Quilty will be buried at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the Honor Flight Network at www.honorflight.org.
