Frances M. Cave, a longtime resident of Mt. Vernon, died on December 13, 2013 after a brief hospitalization. Mrs. Cave was born on June 6, 1921 in Topeka, Kansas to the late Pearl W. and Mayme Atchison Mack. She attended public schools in Topeka and was a graduate of the Homer G. Phillips School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri. She received graduate degrees in Nursing, Social Work and Guidance, from Hunter College and New York University. She was employed by the City of New York as a social worker, vocational instructor and high school guidance counselor.
She met her husband, the late Dr. Herbert G. Cave, while both were employed at Harlem Hospital Center. They married in 1949 and moved to Mt. Vernon in 1957 where they were both very active in numerous local and national civic and professional organizations. Two children were born of that union; to wit: Herbert G. Cave, Jr. and LaVerne Cave. She was an active member of both First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Vernon for many years serving as both an Elder and Deacon and thereafter at Huguenot Memorial where she also served as a Deacon.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Cave was predeceased by her brother Perle William Mack and his spouse Mary Ann Mack. She is survived by her son Herbert and his wife Belinda, and their children Joseph, Adrienne (Jermaine Cooper) Jillene, Santiago and Cheyenne; her daughter LaVerne and her daughter Marie-Grace; five great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday February 8th, at Huguenot Memorial Church, 901 Pelhamdale Avenue, Pelham Manor at two o'clock.
