AGE: 80 • New City

James Monaghan, of New City, NY and The Villages, FL, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY. He was 80 years old. Jim was born July 25, 1933 in the Bronx, NY to Patrick and Catherine (Flynn) Monaghan. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp during the Korean War. Jim joined the NYC Police Dept. in November 1955. After 26 years of service, he went on to work for Champion Paper Co. as a security supervisor. He was a member of the Emerald Society and a life member of the Hudson Valley 1013 association.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Joan, of 58 years, and his children: Patricia Murphy, James Monaghan (Jacqueline), Jeanne Monaghan, and Cathy Callanan. He was the proud Pop-Pop of Ryan, Jimmy, Tara, Michael, Caitlin, and Jacqueline. He also leaves behind his loving brother, Patrick (Bridie) Monaghan and sister Bebe Sote (Fred) and many, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by infant twins, James and John.

His greatest joys were his Faith, family, friends, and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved Irish music, golf, and accomplished two Holes-In-One in his life. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends, on "The Hill" at West Nyack Swim Club.

Visitation will be held from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main St., New City, NY 10956. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 at St. Augustine's Church, New City, NY. Burial will be in St. Anthony's cemetery in Nanuet, NY.
