Kenneth W. Lenhart passed away on March 18, 2014. He was 102 years old. Kenneth was born on April 16, 1911 in Rutherford, NJ to Anthony and Dorothy (LeBrantz) Lenhart, but has lived in Rockland County since 1922. He attended Haverstraw High School and New York University. Most of his career was spent with Sinclair Oil Corporation and later with Atlantic Richfield Corp. and British Petroleum. More recently, he was associated with Scarsdale National Bank. He was a Staff Sergeant during World War II and served from 1941 to 1945 in the Army Air Corps and Army Signal Corps. He always loved music of all kinds, from playing the drums in jazz bands in local taverns, to playing the violin in the original Rockland County Symphony Orchestra. Sports also gave him great pleasure, like tennis and golf, which he played until he was eighty-five years old.
He is survived by his daughter Brook of Haverstraw; daughter Joan Schwerdt (and husband, Rudy) of Stony Point; son William (and wife, Susan) of New City; brother Charles (and wife, Joan) of Harrington Park, NJ; granddaughter Emily (and husband, Nick) of Washington, D.C.; grandson John of Florida; niece Linda (and husband, John) of Fairlawn, NJ; and nephew Charles, Jr. of Long Island, NY. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Adelaide M. Lenhart and by his loving sister, Greta Lenhart Benson. He was truly an inspiration to all who met him and he will be sorely missed.
