Pestone, Louis Joseph

Louis J. Pestone, 88, of New City, New York passed away on March 16, 2013. He was born in the Bronx on September 15, 1924 to Louis and Mildred Pestone.

Louis and his family moved to New City in 1958. Prompted by his daughter Barbara's illness, he was a founding member and president of a local organization to support mentally challenged children.

Lou spent his lifetime in the structural steel business managing major construction projects and was very proud of his impact on the New York City skyline.

Saint Augustine Church, where he was an ecumenical minister, played an important role in Louis' spiritual life. He served in the Army during World War II.

Louis is survived by Angela, his loving wife of 64 years; daughters, Lenore Lee, Barbara Pestone, Carol Pestone and Dorothy Baumel; son-in-law, Steve Baumel; grandchildren, John, Jacqueline, Paul, Gregory and David, and great-granddaughter, Kaylyn. Louis and Angela's beloved daughter, Lorraine passed away as an infant in 1957.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7-9 pm & Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City. A funeral mass will be held at St. Augustine Church in New City on Thursday at 10 am with burial to follow at St. Anthony Church in Nanuet. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cancer Institute of NYU Langone Medical Center or ARC of Rockland would be welcomed.
