Rinaldo August "Augie" Santini Obituary
Santini, Rinaldo August "Augie"

Rinaldo August "Augie" Santini, 92, of Garnerville, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon January 24, 2014 at Nyack Hospital.

Born January 14, 1922 in the Bronx, he was a son of the late Pietro and Rosalinda Bartolomei Santini, who left small hillside villages north of Lucca, Italy to go to the United States around 1900.

Augie worked as a salesman for 7 Santini Brothers Moving Company in the Bronx for over 50 years until his retirement. His long career brought him in contact with many famous people, most memorable among them the young Jackie Robinson, whom Augie helped move into a Stamford, CT home in the 1950's. He proudly served his country in the Navy for three years during WWII, doing tours aboard the USS Charles J. Kimmel in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. Augie was a charter member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Church and the David B. Roche Volunteer Fire Company, which he joined in 1960. He was a Fire Commissioner for 30 years with the Thiells-Roseville Fire District and was a member the Rockland County Firemen's Association. Augie was active with several committees at the David B. Roche Fire Department, including the Club 26 Fund Raising Committee and numerous dinner committees, as well as serving as a chauffeur for the fire district. He was also a member of the Haverstraw Elks Lodge BPOE 877.

Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Maria Santini and numerous nieces and nephews. Augie is predeceased by his beloved wife, Rita Santini; son, John Santini and several brothers and sisters.

His daughter-in-law and his seventeen nieces and nephews, who respected his tremendous integrity, admired his deep humility and thoroughly enjoyed his outrageous humor, will miss him immensely.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 31, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church in Garnerville with Rev. Joseph LaMorte officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at F.W. Loescher Veterans Cemetery in New Hempstead.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Augie's memory to St. Gregory Barbarigo Church General Fund, 21 Cinder Road, Garnerville, NY 10923 or to the David B. Roche Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 186, Garnerville, NY 10923.
