Darcy, Robert J.

Robert Joseph Darcy, age 80, of Laguna Woods California, died on April 3, 2013 at The Keck Hospital of USC in Los Angeles.

Mr. Darcy was born October 10, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY. A graduate of Brooklyn Preparatory School and Fordham University (1954), he served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Corps of Engineers in Germany during 1954 through 1956. In 1957 he married Joan Anne Tully of Pelham, NY. They made their home in New Rochelle, NY with their six children. Joan Darcy died in 2001.

In 1966 he formed the R. J. Darcy Company, Inc., a printing firm headquartered in New York City. He served as Chairman of the New Rochelle Planning Board from 1980-­1987. In 1991 he accepted the appointment as City Clerk for the City of New Rochelle. Having been active in New Rochelle and Westchester County politics for over 20 years, he accepted the Republican nomination in 1995 to run for the seat on the Westchester County Board of Legislators representing New Rochelle and Pelham. He was elected and served through 1997.

Mr. Darcy accepted an appointment in 1998 with the Westchester County Department of Social Services as the Executive Director of the Workforce Investment Board, a federal program administered through the County to provide services and training that enabled unemployed persons to re-­enter the workforce with meaningful employment. Mr. Darcy retired from Westchester County in 2004.

In September 2004 Mr. Darcy married Ms. Rana M. Schreiber of Brookfield CT. They made their home in Southbury CT and then in Laguna Woods CA. Mr. Darcy is survived by his six children, Louise Darcy, Kathleen Darcy Mulligan, Stephen Darcy, Michael Darcy, Thomas Darcy, Francis Darcy, Rana's son Shepard Boucher, and four grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Nicholas Church in Laguna Woods California, on April 20,2013. Interment will be in Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona Del Mar, California. An East Coast memorial will be held at a later date.
