Ronald (Jake) Schoenherr longtime New Rochelle resident passed away on May 9, 2013 at King Street Nursing Home. He was 96 years young.
Ronald was born on Sept 16, 1916 and was raised in New Rochelle. He was the youngest of 5 children, all of whom have predeceased him. His parents were Arthur Schoenherr and Katherine O'Dwyer. In 1943, Ronald married Arline Greene of New Rochelle. They had 5 children. Lynne (Ray),Ronald (Dotsy), Gary (MaryEllen), Carl (Joan) and Mark(Christine). They have fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchlidren.
Ronald served in the US Navy Air Force during WWII from 1942-1945. He was an airial gunner serving on the Wake Island air-craft carrier. Ronald (Jake) joined the New Rochelle Fire Dept in 1946 and retired in 1978. He attained the rank of Lieutenant in 1951 and the rank of Captain in 1975.
The Schoenherr family lived in New Rochelle until 1981 then moved to White Plains. Ronald and Arline were always
involved in golf, tennis and dancing all through their lives together. They were married for 69 years. Ronald was a member of the New Rochelle Elks lodge 756, American Legion Post 8 and Fire Dept Holy Name Society.
Wake will be held at McMahon, Lyon & Harnett Funeral Home. 491 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains, NY (914) 949-7777. Monday May 13 hours 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral mass will be held Tuesday 10 am at St Pius X Church, Scarsdale . Burial will be at Greenwood Union Cemetery Rye NY.
