Storm, Tenby

Tenby Storm, 93, a long time resident of Sleepy Hollow Gardens, Tarrytown, NY, and a tenant advocate with the Tarrytown Tenants Association for over thirty years, passed away at Somers Manor Nursing Home, Somers, NY, on April 15, 2014. Tenby was born April 27, 1920, in Chicago, IL, to William C. and Esther Settergren Larson. Mrs. Storm was a 1941 graduate of the University of Michigan, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. She also was a graduate of the Katharine Gibbs School for Secretaries in New York City. During WWII, Tenby lived in New York City at International House and worked for the Berlitz Schools of Languages and Export Associates Development Company. She was very active with various USO clubs helping to entertain troops. In 1945, Tenby married Donald Storm who predeceased her in 1974. Tenby's work life spanned over sixty years. Early on she was a founding member of Loyham Tractor Corporation in Detroit, MI. Then was an editor of educational material with the Jam Handy Organization, Detroit; Scott Education, Holyoke, MA; and Prentice Hall Media, Tarrytown, NY. In her later work life she was an editor of credentialing materials for Professional Examination Service in New York City.

Tenby was interested in photography, constructing crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and reading mystery stories. She was a member of the New York City Nero Wolfe Pack Society and developed puzzles for the Pack newsletter for many years. She loved to swim and as a young woman won awards at competitive swim meets. Tenby followed college football with a passion and was an avid race car fan. Friends knew never to phone during a University of Michigan football game or an auto racing event.

A woman with a tenacious and generous spirit, Tenby leaves behind many friends and relatives whose lives she has enriched over the years. Tenby's extended family would like to thank the staff of Somers Manor Nursing Home for the care and concern they have shown during the past months.
