Theodore Robert Dusanenko of Charlotte, NC died on Saturday, October 12, 2013. He was 71 years old. Mr. Dusanenko was born on January 28, 1942 in Bronx, NY to Harriet T. and Teddy B. Dusanenko. Ted was a lifelong resident of Rockland County and after retirement relocated to North Carolina. Ted spent his early childhood in the Bronx attending P.S. 90 and P.S. 22. He is a graduate of Clarkstown High School and received a BS and MS from SUNY Albany. Mr. Dusanenko taught mathematics at Clarkstown North H.S. and is a former wrestling coach. His passion was Rockland County politics and representing the Republican Party. Ted proudly served Rockland for almost 40 years serving as Rockland County Legislator, Clarkstown Town Supervisor and served as a Clarkstown Councilman. While he was able to accomplish many things during his tenure, he was especially proud of Starting the New City Volunteer Ambulance Youth Corps, and the internationally acclaimed Clarkstown Youth Court. Mr. Dusanenko was also salesman at Dolores A. James Real Estate in Piermont, NY. Ted was proud of his Ukrainian heritage and remained a member of the Ukrainian National Association. He was also a member of the New City Ambulance Corps, the Pearl River Elks Club and the Elks Lodge of Fort Mills, SC.
He is survived by his wife Dolores James Dusanenko, of Waxhaw, NC and her son Roger James (Yvonne), their 2 children as well as Dolores's daughter Debra Garvey (Michael) and their 8 children. He is also survived by his sister Andrea Hartwick, and her husband James of Upper Nyack, NY, a brother Gerald Dusanenko of Mexico, and nieces Heather Olivo and her husband John of Basking Ridge, NJ along with their 3 sons and Tara Hartwick of Upper Nyack, NY. Mr. Dusanenko will be remembered by his smile, laughter and service to the community.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main Street, New City, NY. A Christian Mass will be offered on Saturday October 19, 2013 at 10:15am at Augustine's Church in New City. A private cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mr. Dusanenko's name to the New City Ambulance Corps., PO Box 33, New City, NY 10956.
