Wayne John Byers, 82, entered into rest on March 8, 2013 in Augusta, Georgia, following a brief hospitalization. He was the husband of the late Janet Scott Byers.
Mr. Byers was raised in Akron, Ohio, and was a graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. His college studies were interrupted by service in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, and he was very proud to offer a "Semper Fi" to fellow Marines. He met his future wife Janet while they were both students at Miami, and they always liked to joke that they formed a "Miami Merger."
His professional career took the Byers to Chicago and Cincinnati, and he came to the New York area to become the National Sales Manager of Sterling Drug Company, before starting Ardent International Inc. with his wife Janet in 1990. Mr. Byers was also the president of DenMed International and the principal of WJB Marketing. The Byers lived initially in Eastchester before moving to Briarcliff Manor in the late 1960s. Mr. Byers was a member of the Sleepy Hollow Country Club for over 30 years. The Byers and their close friends enjoyed many skiing vacations together in Massachusetts, Vermont and Vail, Colorado. He was a member of the Scarborough Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Byers moved from Briarcliff to Martinez, Georgia in the fall of 2012 to be nearer his family members. They include, in Georgia: brother-in-law Homer Scott and wife Marilyn; niece: Jessica Beitzel and husband Hank; nephews: Andrew Scott and wife Anthea, Gordon Scott and wife Amy; in Ohio, Wayne's sister Vivian Mills and niece Stacey Peterson and nephew Jeffrey Mills; and in New York, special friend: Bonnie Billings.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Scarborough Presbyterian Church, 655 Scarborough Road at the Albany Post Road (Route 9), Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510. There will be a buffet reception for Wayne's friends following the service, at the church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Scarborough Presbyterian Church or to the donor's favorite charity.
