Hinchey, William Joseph

William Joseph Hinchey, a former resident of West Nyack, NY, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013 at his home in Washingtonville, NY. Son of the late William Patrick Hinchey and the late Mae Lynch Hinchey, he was born October 5, 1935 in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY. Bill was a retired police officer with the 34th Precinct, New York, NY. He was a member of St. Mary's Church of Washingtonville, was a former member of the Army Honor Guard while stationed in Japan; he was a member of the NYPD Honor Legion, New York, NY; he was a former security officer for the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital of New York, NY; was a former investigator for Hertz Corporation in Park Ridge, NJ, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a PGA certified Clubmaster and an avid golfer.

"Bill was a loving and devoted family man. He had a thoughtful and generous heart. He maintained his dry sense of humor to the very end."

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Eileen Hoff Hinchey of Washingtonville, NY; his daughter Sharon Strommer and her husband Brian of Washingtonville, NY; 3 grandchildren, Brandy, Owen and Keira Strommer and his extended Strommer family along with his nieces and nephews, Laura Lapierre and her husband Max; April Mahnkopf and her husband Jim Steel, Richard Litterello, and Michael Litterello and his wife Elayne, and his great nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his nephew Anthony Litterello, his niece Robin Litterello, his sister Helene Litterello and his grandson Brian Strommer.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday, December 19, 2013 at St. Mary's Church, 42 Goshen Avenue, Washingtonville. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, 2 Fr. Tierney Circle, Washingtonville.
