Bill was raised in Ozark, AR, and Oklahoma. He was office manager of Bill Church Painting and All Pro Inc. of Louisville, KY and owner of the Model Café in Ozark, AR.
At the age of 17 he joined the Army Signal Corp., which split off into the United States Air Force. While in the service he attended Weather Forecasting School where he studied weather instruments and weather observation. He graduated 2nd class as a MATS non-commission officer. Bill flew in a WB-26C Invader aircraft along the coast of Russia, the China mainland and along the D.M.Z. line between North and South Korea. He retired as a USAF Master Sergeant and weather forecaster with over 20 years service with 10 years served in occupation of Japan and two years in the Korean War.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ben Church of Ozark, AR; his mother, Bertha Church of Paso Robles, CA; and his two brothers, Robert Edward and Kenneth Church.
He passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and five children. He is survived in death by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Church, Charles Church (Kim), Jeannette "Lee" Hughes (Danny), Kenneth Church, Richard Church (Hope), and Elizabeth "Liz" Adkins (Eric); 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his nephew, John Church and niece, Patty Nelson of California; and his uncle, Robert Dean.
Bill was a member of the Marine Corps League, studied and became a 32nd degree Mason, and a Kentucky Colonel. He believed in helping people and gave whole heartily to Kosair Charities and Dare to Care.
His funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Highlands.
Memorial gifts may be given to Kosair Charities, Dare to Care and Hosparus.
