SCHOO, BERNARD J. M.D., 91, of Louisville, passed away Monday, October 7, 2013.

Bernie was the son of the late Joseph A. Schoo and Catherine S. Tobe Schoo. He was a graduate of St. Xavier High School, University of Notre Dame and the University of Louisville Medical School. He was a retired surgeon with a specialty in pediatrics. He served as a medical officer in the Navy during World War II, was a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, KY Surgical Section of American Academy of Pediatrics, KY & Louisville Surgical Society, KY & Louisville Pediatric Society, past president of Kentucky Chapter of American Cancer Society, past president of the Medical Staff of Audubon Hospital, Associate Professor of Surgery at U of L, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Audubon Country Club.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Catherine Filburn Schoo.

He is survived by his children, Michael J. Schoo M.D., Patrick B. Schoo (Andrea), Kenneth J. Schoo (Stacey), Virginia S. Duffy (Pat), Ann S. Mayer (Rusty) and Kelly S. Curtis (Berry); 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren with two more to arrive soon; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

His funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3345 Lexington Road with committal services at the Chapel of Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road "in St Matthews." Memorial contributions may be made to the Fr. McGee Scholarship Fund at Holy Spirit.
