GIMBEL, COLLEEN O'BRIEN ELDER, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2014 with her family and loved ones at her side.

Born on September 27, 1945 in Louisville to the late Daniel and Selma O'Brien, she had received her elementary education at Our Mother of Sorrows School, and graduated from Assumption High School in 1963, prior to graduating from the University of Louisville.

Colleen was a certified public accountant, employed by Dennis L. O'Brien, CPA, PSC. Prior to entering public accounting, she was a school teacher and a nurse. She was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Business Appraisers.

Colleen is survived by her husband, Robert Gimbel; her three children, Richard Joseph Elder, Bonny Elder (Antonia Mueller) and Kristen Elder (Damian Zipp); stepchildren, Christine Gimbel, Matthew Gimbel (Kristen), Sarah Cecil (Ben); grandchildren, Joseph Dallas Elder, Aiden Elder, Synclair Mueller and Kaylee Cecil; and brothers, Mark O'Brien (Jan), Dennis O'Brien (Sherry) and Jack O'Brien.

She was an animal lover and a person who lived life to the fullest; enjoying flying, sky diving, horseback riding and travel in her youth, before becoming a most devoted and loving mother. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and positive attitude toward life.

Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Hurstbourne Christian Church, 601 Nottingham Parkway, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road.
