Eleanor Crume (Sico) McCabe Obituary
SPRINGFIELD - McCabe, Eleanor (Sico) Crume, 92, passed away at 3:35 p.m., Sunday, March 31, 2013 at the Palliative Care Unit of Baptist East Hospital in Louisville.

Eleanor was born on March 20, 1921 to the late Mary Trent and Dorchester Burr Crume in Springfield. Because of her father's business, the family also lived briefly in Bloomfield, Bardstown and Campbellsville. After the death of her mother in 1931, Eleanor was reared by her grandmother and stepgrandfather, Ora and Norris Montgomery.

She graduated from Springfield High School in 1940 and moved to Louisville, where she graduated from Bryant Stratton Business College, now Sullivan University.

Upon graduation, she worked for three years at Hillerich and Bradsby. From there, she went to work at Girdler and Tube Turns.

In 1946, she married her former high school history teacher, John T. McCabe, and they made their home in Springfield, where, at the time, he was still teaching. He later became associated with The Springfield State Bank. In 1954, the superintendent of Springfield High School (presently Washington County High School) asked Eleanor to be the first secretary/treasurer of the school. She accepted the job, telling him she would take it until he could find someone else. Thirty-eight years later, she retired from that position.

As a young mother, Eleanor joined a dinner-bridge club in Springfield. The 12 ladies played bridge together once a month for over 50 years. She was a member of the Springfield Woman's Club, as well as a past president and treasurer. She served as secretary/treasurer of the Women's Missionary Guild at Springfield Christian Church for many years and also taught the high school girl's Sunday school class. Most recently, she was a founding member of Cornerstone Christian Church in Springfield.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Leon T. "Skip" Crume; and her husband, John T. McCabe.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary Margaret "Missy" McCabe of Louisville.

Visitation will be at Carey & Son Funeral Home, 216 E. Main St., Springfield on Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the Cornerstone Christian Church. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cornerstone Christian Church, 805 Bardstown Road, Springfield. Carey & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the building fund of Cornerstone Christian Church.
