Elmer was a United States veteran serving as a corporal sergeant in the Korean War. Also, while in Wisconsin, he was the president of the Lions Club and a member of The Optimists Club.
Elmer's hobbies included antiques, hunting, fishing and sports. He also loved animals. He cherished their cat "Poppy." Elmer's favorite memory was fishing up north in Wisconsin and Canada.
Elmer attended Ohio State University, later going to Butler University majoring in industrial management. During his career, Elmer worked at Cummins Engineering as a Superintendent of Assembly and Test, Ariens Company as vice president of manufacturing , South Bend Corporation as the plant manager and Conco, Incorporated as the plant manager.
Survived by his wife, Sharon Carpenter, his children, Robert Carpenter (Ellen), Mary Ann Carpenter-Herlitzke (Scott); and John Carpenter (Sue); and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Zang-Carpenter; his father, Christopher Carpenter, his two brothers, Larry Carpenter and Jim Carpenter and his sister, Mary-Ann Carpenter.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Kentucky Humane Society. The funeral service is private. Arrangements are being handled by Arch L. Heady and Sons - Westport.
