BICKEL, HENRY D., 82, of Louisville, died peacefully Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Jefferson Place.
Henry was the retired president of American Builders Supply Company. He was graduated from Male High School and the University of Kentucky, where he was a member of Sigma Chi. He served in the U. S. Army. Henry was a member of the Louisville Country Club, a Life Member of the Juniper Club in Astor, FL, and had been a member of the Louisville Rotary Club.
Henry was a talented artist excelling in painting, woodworking and photography. He was generous and kind to his family and many friends. He loved boating and was known for his dancing ability.
Henry was devoted to his late wife, Joan Potter Bickel, to whom he was married for 52 years. He was also predeceased by his brother, Paul Bickel, Jr.; and sister, Virginia Bickel Putney Dalton.
Survivors include his sisters-in-law, Martha Potter Dewing and Mary Virginia Bickel; niece, Nancy Tafel (Tom); nephews, Paul Bickel (Jackie), Doug Dewing, Mose Putney, Andy Dewing (Mary), Stuart Dalton (Cathy), Henry Dewing (Sarah) and Barker Dalton; and 23 great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family wishes to thank Henry's caregivers of many years, Georgia Brown and Brenda Riggs, as well as the staff of Jefferson Place.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday at Pearson's, 149 Breckinridge Lane. Funeral services will be on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 2822 Frankfort Avenue, with burial at Cave Hill Cemetery.
