BROWN, JOHN "JACK" F. JR., Jack Brown was born March 8, 1945 in Louisville to John Frederick Brown and Loretta Kamenish and passed away September 15, 2013 in Chico, CA.
He was in the first graduating class of Bishop David High School and attended Murray State University on a football scholarship. He enlisted in the US Navy and served as a Seabee and in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. Following his military service and the untimely deaths of his parents, Jack moved to California with his youngest brother, Robbie. Then he met Kathy Barrett whom he married in 1976.
Jack received his bachelor's degree in communications at San Francisco State University and his master's degree in broadcasting at Southern Illinois University.
Jack was hired by Chico State University with the goal of transforming the student-run KCHO radio station into a member of National Public Radio which he did in 1983. Jack was the General Manager of KCHO FM for 26 years and retired in 2007.
He was a founding member and three-time past president of the California Public Broadcasters Association, but his proudest accomplishment was being the father of his two beloved children Sean and Meghan.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John Frederick Brown Sr. and Loretta Kamenish Brown; his brothers, Joseph Nicholas Brown and David Earl Brown.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Kathryn Barrett-Brown and his loving children Sean F. Brown and Meghan L. Brown. He also leaves behind his brother Robert Dennis Brown, his wife Griselda and daughter Melissa. He is missed by his sister-in-law Colleen Barrett-O'Brien and brother-in-law Timothy James Barrett and his wife Keri, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and Mass was held at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church on September 20, 2013 in Chico. Burial with military honors was held September 23, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma, CA.
