John Wesley Urton M.D. Obituary
URTON, JOHN WESLEY, MD, 84, passed away early Monday morning, April 7, 2014.

Born February 21, 1930 in Louisville, he was the son of Ida Cooper Pryor and Frayvol Wesley Urton, MD.

Dr. Urton joined the Marine Corps in 1948. Following discharge, he attended the University of Louisville and received his degree in 1960 from U of L Medical School where he was president of Alpha Kappa Medical Fraternity. Following a residency in psychiatry, he opened a private practice associated with Our Lady of Peace Hospital. He retired from private practice at age 60 and spent two years at Central State Hospital as a staff psychiatrist.

He lived in the same Highlands community from age five until his death. He met Kitty Keith when they both were 11. They started dating at 15 and were married at St. Raphael Church in 1950.

Survivors include his wife, Kitty; five children, Sally, David (Patty), Beth (Jack), Becky (Paul) and Christian (Elise); 12 grandchildren, Lance, Carrie (Dave), John Wesley II (Allison), Wesley (Maranda), Matt, Alex, Katie, Rachel, Michael, Griffin, Graham and Max and nine great-grandchildren.

Dr. Urton was a great lover of life. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, snow skiing, water skiing, parasailing, hang gliding, tennis, golf, scuba diving, sailing and deep sea fishing. He was a charter member at Campus Tennis Club and Midland Trail Golf Club.

He was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be terribly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Kentucky Humane Society or to the Palliative Care Unit at Baptist Health
