JEFFERSONVILLE - Roberts, Justin Byron, 78 died Friday morning, May 9, 2014 at Westminster Healthcare in Clarksville.

He was born on June 30, 1935 in Lawrence County, IN to Hobart and Naomi Fields Roberts. He was a graduate of Shawswick High School (Bedford, IN) and Indiana University. He was a member of the Air Force ROTC at IU and served a total of six years rising to the rank of captain. Subsequent to his military service, he earned his Ph.D. in education from Ohio University.

He was an educator. He served in a variety of roles in public schools. He was a teacher a Shawswick High School, a principle at Little Hocking (Ohio) Elementary School, an assistant superintendent at Warren (Ohio) Local Schools, director of secondary education at Monroe County (Indiana) Community School Corporation and Superintendent of Washington (Indiana ) Community Schools and Greater Clark County School Corporation. He also spent a number of years in Christian education at Ohio Valley University (Vienna, West Virginia) serving as an instructor, dean and president. He concluded his career as an education consultant for Kovert Hawkins Architects of Jeffersonville.

He was involved in a variety of community and professional organizations including Rotary, serving on the Board of Childplace in Jeffersonville, and serving as president of the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents.

He was a lifelong servant in the Church of Christ. He preached to congregations in the Bedford area in his high school and college days. He later served as an elder for the Belpre (Ohio), North Central (Bloomington), Washington (Indiana) and Northside (Jeffersonville) congregations.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Norma Burris Roberts; daughter Kimbra Wiseman and her husband, Brent of Atlanta, GA, their children Justin (and his wife Whitney) and Chet; son Brent and his wife Suzanne of Jeffersonville, their children Emily Foshee (and her husband Caleb) and Michelle Roberts; son Kerry and his wife Dianne of Springfield, TN, and their children Evan, Nora and Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Scott Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, with burial at the Mitchell Cemetery in Mitchell, IN. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
