BERRY, KATHERINE MARIE BARRETT, went home to be with Jesus Monday, February 10, 2014.
Born May 23, 1923 in Belzoni, MS, to Katherine and James Barrett. She graduated from high school in Belzoni and went to college in Jackson, MS.
She moved to Louisville in 1944. Marie has been a member of Shively Baptist Church for 57 years. She taught Sunday School to Singles and Young Marrieds, served on several committees and worked in other areas of the church. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren. Marie was a talented writer, journalist, and storyteller. She was an avid U of K basketball fan, loved crossword puzzles, reading, decorating, sewing, cooking, gardening and Bible study. She was a medical secretary many years and retired after 15 years as an executive secretary at Midland Warehouse.
She was predeceased by her parents and her daughter, Bonnie Rounds and a brother, James Robert Barrett, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Michael Berry and three grandchildren, Jordan, Hunter and Stephanie Berry and many close friends.
The funeral will be noon Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy., with burial in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday, 2-8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on Saturday. Online condolences to owenfuneralhome.com
