CARNES, DR. LAWRENCE I., 89, of Louisville, passed away Friday, October 11, 2013 at home with his family by his side.

He was a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, achieving the most outstanding senior award, and the University of Washington Graduate Endodontics Program. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Captain and dentist with the U.S. Public Health Services. He was an associate professor of Endodontics for over 20 years at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, receiving the most outstanding instructor award as well as the Golden Alumni Award. He retired at the age of 83.
Dr. Carnes is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Eva Canada Carnes; his daughter, Sharon Beth Carnes; and many loving nieces and nephews. Lawrence also leaves behind his wonderful granddog, Lacey.
His funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday October 17, 2013 at Ratterman Funeral Home 12900 Shelbyville Rd., East Louisville, KY 40243, with commitment ceremony to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday, 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
