SELLERSBURG - Burger, Loren Wesley, 80 years of age, passed on to join his Lord and Savior Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Clark Memorial Hospital, Jeffersonville, following a brief illness. He was born to Harold and Mable Burger in Fayette County, IA and spent his childhood in Sterling, IL. Loren moved to Louisville, KY in 1960 and has been a resident of Jeffersonville and Sellersburg for the past 45 years. Loren served honorably as a Staff Sargent in the Marines, including a tour of duty in Korea. He attended University of Illinois and received a B.S. in accounting from Murray College, Murray, KY (now Murray State University).

He worked as an Accountant and Construction Budget Manager for South Central Bell, retiring after 29 years of service. Loren's life epitomized servant leadership. He served for many years as a volunteer leader in the Lincoln Heritage Council of Boy Scouts of America with the Telephone Pioneers. For more than 40 years he was an active member, lay leader, and Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Jeffersonville.
Loren was a devoted husband to Carol (Rhoads) Burger for 53 years and loving father of three grown children. He had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed camping, backpacking, and canoeing. He was a man of great personal integrity and character, always demonstrating love, duty, and honor in everything.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mable Burger; sisters, Verla Burger and Carol (Burger) Mulnix; and brother, Philip Burger.
Survivors include: sister, Wilma (Burger) Mechling, Sun City, AZ; wife, Carol (Rhoads) Burger, Sellersburg IN; children, Susan Utz (Curt), Sellersburg, IN, L. Wes Burger, Jr., (Leslie), Starkville, MS, and Tom Burger, Sellersburg, IN; grandchildren; Logan Stone, Alex Utz, Aliya Utz, Justin Burger, Wesley Burger and Ryan Burger.
Visitation for friends and family will be held from 2-8 p.m. Monday June 10, 2013 at Scott Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, IN. A memorial service celebrating Loren's life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday June 11, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, Jeffersonville.
