McCLARY, DR. LOWELL REECE "DOC" "LR" "PAWPAW," 85, died peacefully in the early morning hours of February 17, 2013 at his home in Louisville, KY. He was born in Knoxville, TN, on August 4, 1927 to the late Robert Booker and Laura Ethel Rymer McClary. He grew up in Knoxville making friendships that lasted a lifetime. After graduating from high school at age 16, he attended Tulane University and The University of Virginia. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the US Army serving at several army posts. In 1945, after being discharged, he returned to college at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and graduated 2 years later. He entered the work force, married and was eventually transferred to Louisville KY, where he left his job with St. Regis Paper Company to enter the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Four years later he graduated, President of his Senior Class. He joined the practice of Dr. Gene Holmes in Middletown, KY. He served that community well but one of his greatest joys was being the team doctor for the Eastern High School football team for many years.

In 1972 he married Donna J. Spencer who made a home for him and his children, traveled across the US and around the world and was with him at the end of his life. In the early 80's, they moved to the Carolinas where they lived in North Litchfield, Ocean Isle and Pawleys Island. Together they started a general or family practice doctor's office serving the Pawleys Island community. Eventually the practice was sold and Lowell went on staff at Myrtle Beach Manor. He finished his medical career as a staff administrator at Georgetown Hospital. He and Donna returned to Knoxville, his childhood home, to be near family and friends. His last move would bring him back to Louisville where he lived for 2 ½ more years.

Dr. McClary is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Donna J. Spencer McClary; his six children, Martha Isaacs (David) of Charlotte, NC, Laurie Bilik of Sarasota, FL, Jeff McClary of Pawleys Island, SC, Kathy Adams (Stuart) of Prospect, KY, Beth Blinn (Tom) of Sacramento, CA, and Missy McClary of Asheville, NC; his grandchildren, Dan Isaacs (Mary) of Charlotte, NC, Lauren Gonzalez (Jesse) of Brooklyn, NY, Matt Isaacs (Amanda) of Charlotte, NC, Carleigh Irvine of Greenwood, SC, Spencer Payne of Knoxville, TN, and Ashton Adams of Prospect, KY; and his great-grandchildren, Landon Irvine, Virginia Isaacs, Annabel Isaacs and Che Gonzalez.
