HYLAND, MARGARET "PEGGY" CATHERINE, 65, peacefully passed away on March 5, 2013 at Norton Suburban Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Peggy was born on April 14, 1947 in Louisville. She graduated from the former Loretto High School and received her Bachelors of Science degree at Spalding College. She taught biology at DeSales High School and later attended Ohio State University, where she received a Master of Science degree in natural resources. Following graduation, she was the director of the Environmental Education Program at King Center in Nazareth, KY.
In 1976, Peggy was associated with the Legislative Research Commission of the Commonwealth of Kentucky starting as a Legislative Analyst and eventually serving as Deputy Director. During that time she co-authored the textbook "Environmental Science-Living within the System of Nature." Peggy retired in 2002 to pursue her interests in environmental issues and social equality causes. She received the 2010 Vic Hillard, Jr. Award for her service in state government.
Peggy was an active member of St. William Catholic Church where she was married to Keith Clements in 1986. She was an inspiration to all her family and friends, and delighted in taking wildflower walks each spring.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Helen Hyland (GaGa).
She is survived by her loving husband, Keith; two stepchildren, Chris Clements (Kim) and Laura Miller (Brian); three sisters, Mary Ann Hyland-Murr (Ken), Pat Feger (Dave) and Jane Hyland; seven nephews; two nieces; and six grandchildren.
Her celebration of life service will be on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. William Catholic Church, 1226 W. Oak St. Visitation will be on Friday, from 1-8 p.m. at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road.
