ALEXANDER, MARY VIRGINIA (POWELL), 91, returned home to her Heavenly Father on December 3, 2013, with her loving daughters by her side.
Virginia was born on January 2, 1922 in Glasgow, KY. She graduated from Glasgow High School in 1940. Before moving to Louisville, KY, she welded B-52 bomber wings at the Willow Run Bomber Plant in Michigan during World War II.
In Louisville, she worked at Interstate Loan and Motor Parts Depot. She was attending secretarial school when she met the love of her life, Roy Alexander. Virginia and Roy married in 1951 and enjoyed 45 wonderful years together. While raising three daughters, Virginia was active in women's golf at Big Spring Country Club, served on the board of Crescent Hill Women's Club and worked actively as a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She also loved volunteering at the Kosair Children's Hospital Gift Shop. She possessed a lovely singing voice and a dry sense of humor. Virginia was a beautiful, kind and generous woman who loved God and her family above all else. Her presence on Earth was a blessing to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Hattie Lee and Daniel Gideon Powell; her mother, Mary Belle Weaver (Powell); and her father, Terry Sanders; her husband, Roy Eero Alexander; her sisters, Catherine Drake and Francis Dempsey; and her brothers, Charles and Robert Weaver.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Alice Marie Alexander Geever (Patrick), Peggy Ann Alexander Hanlein (Andrew), and Cindy Lee Alexander Starks (Mark); her grandchildren, Christopher, Alison, Alexander, Matthew and Michael Hanlein, and Owen Alexander Geever; and her sister, Mary Elizabeth Seligman.
